On 5 September 2025, 15-year-old pianist Kevin Tan gave a successful charity solo recital at Regent Hall in London. The hall was completely full, and Kevin performed late works by Beethoven, Ravel, and Chopin for an audience of more than 260 elderly people. After an hour of highly demanding music, his suit jacket was soaked with sweat, yet the sight of the smiles on the faces of the elderly audience made all the effort feel worthwhile.
One elderly listener in a wheelchair held Kevin’s hand for a long time, reluctant to let go, repeatedly saying that Kevin was a messenger sent from heaven, using his music to warm people’s hearts. A piano teacher with fifty years of teaching experience said that Kevin’s playing was unlike that of any other pianist; he felt that Kevin was using music to stir the audience’s hearts deeply — at times passionate, at times tranquil, at times lifting them into the clouds, and at times drawing them down into the depths of the sea. A veteran filmmaker in his seventies, who had already followed Kevin to three of his recitals, even said that he hoped to make a documentary about Kevin, recording his journey toward the world’s great stages.
Since June 2024, Kevin has been giving solo recitals every month for elderly people in retirement homes and community churches. Many of them describe him as a musical messenger sent from heaven, whose playing warms the heart and rekindles the spirit.
